Popularly known via his screen name Tom Cruise, Thomas Cruz Mapother IV is now known as one of the top actors of his time. First cast in the leading role of the movie Risky Business in 1983, the A-lister has continued to create quality movies including Top Gun, Mission Impossible, and War of the Worlds. Among his many accomplishments are three Academy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.
Born on July 3, 1962, the American actor was born in Syracuse, New York to Mary Lee and Thomas Cruise Mapother III. His first film role was on the movie Endless Romance that starred Brooke Shields.
Aside from various movies under his belt, Cruise has also partnered with his former talent agent and formed the Cruise/Wagner Productions and has since started co-producing some of Cruise’s films. It has even been said that Cruise is one of the few producers who has the capability of ensuring the success of a billion dollar franchise.
During 1990, 1991 and 1997, Cruise was named among People’s 50 most beautiful people in the world while Empire places him within the rank off 100 sexiest stars in film history.
The American actor is also widely known for his support for the Church of Scientology. His initial involvement was through his first wife Mimi Rogers and the actor has since then became an outspoken advocate. According to Cruise, the religion has helped him overcome dyslexia which has been a problem during his growing up years.
Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers in 1987 and was divorced during the year 1990. He then married Nicole Kidman whom he met at the film Days of Thunder. The two then separated in 2001. The actor is now married to Katie Holmes and they have a daughter named Suri.
