Born Maxton Gig Beesley Jr. on April 16, 1971, this English actor and musician is best known for his part in the British TV Drama Hotel Babylon playing Charlie Edwards. Beesley’s middle name Gig was said to be an inspiration from the actor Gig Young.
His parents Maxton Gig Beesley Sr. and Chris Marlowe were both musically inclined, prompting the young Beesley into a life of music. He was a chorister at the Manchester Cathedral and studied at the Chethams School of Music. He also entered Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with singer Omar. As a musician, Beesley performed in concerts as a pianist and percussionist for the singer Robbie Williams. The two are known to be good friends. Aside from the British pop star, Beesley has also toured with George Benson, George Michael, and Take That.
With regards to his acting career, Beesley first earned his major acting role in the TV miniseries The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling which aired in 1999. The series was based on a book which went by the same title.
Known to have dated Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls, Beesley is also stepbrother to actor Jason Milligan and brother-in-law of Angela Griffin.
During 2001, he appeared in the movie Glitter opposite singer and actress Mariah Carey. Unfortunately, this move was a failure and had him nominated for a Razzie Award Worst Supporting Actor.
Appearing in various films both in the United States and the United Kingdom, he is popularly known in Britain for his role in the BBC Three medical drama Bodies. In 2005, he was known for working in a brand new series of Bodies.
The actor is also a voice narrator for some TV advertisements including Energizer Lithium Batteries and ITV.
