Born on December 26, 1971, Jared Leto is an American actor and musician. He was born in Bossier City, Louisiana, although he spent his childhood traveling and living Colorado, Virginia, Wyoming, and even Haiti.
Leto moved to LA in 1992 to pursue a career in acting. His dark, brooding looks and natural flair for drama later landed him a role as Jordan Catalano in My So-Called Life, where he worked with Claire Danes. He was later cast in movies such as How to Make an American Quilt and Urban Legend. His notable performances were in Girl Interrupted where he starred with Angelina Jolie and Fight Club with Brad Pitt.
Leto gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of heroin addict Harry Goldfarb in the 2000 flick Requiem for a Dream. More big movie roles followed opposite some of the biggest names in Hollywood. There was Panic Room opposite Jodie Foster and Highway with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2002, Alexander with Collin Farrell in 2004, and Lord of War with Nicolas Cage in 2005.
He also starred in Chapter 27 opposite Lindsay Lohan, playing Mark David Chapman, John Lennonís killer. Leto is a lacto-ovo vegetarian, which he emphasized while doing interviews for the movie, for which he gained a total of 60 pounds. The actor made the move to veganism in 2010.
Aside from acting, Leto is also the lead vocalist and songwriter for the band 30 Seconds to Mars, which he started in 1998 with his brother. The band started touring in 2006 and has three full length albums already released since it was formed. Leto also directed the videos for the bandís songs, among them The Kill and From Yesterday. They recently collaborated with Kanye West for the song Hurricane from their This Is War album.
