James Van Der Beek

Born March 8 1977, James Van Der Beek is best known for his part in the drama series Dawson’s Creek as Dawson Leery. The son of Melinda and James William Van Der Beek, he grew up in Cheshire Connecticut where he attended Dodd Junior High School and proceeded to the Cheshire Academy. He also attended the Drew University but promptly dropped out to pursue his goals in acting.

At the age of 15, James already knew what he wanted and even asked his mother to take him to New York City to get himself an agent. His professional debut came on the New York premiere of Find the Sun where he played the part of Fergus. It was on 1995 that James made his film debut, taking a bit part in the movie “Angus”.

His best known role was as Dawson Leery where he starred alongside Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson. The series has been such a success that it has been syndicated worldwide, catapulting Van Der Beek to popularity.

Named as one of People’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World”, he then appeared on several films including Texas Rangers and Scary Movie. When Dawson’s Creek ended, Van Der Beek has made appearances in television including the role of psycho killer Tobias Killer in the series Criminal Minds.

With his numerous roles, Van Der Beek garnered various awards including the Festival Award for Best Actor for his role in Formosa Betrayed. Teen Choice Award has also chosen him for the award Film – Breakthrough Performance for the movie Varsity Blues during 1999.

Just this year 2010, the actor has announced that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child together.
